Every Day Should Be Earth Day

Today April 22 world is celebrating Earth Day for 46th time. This is what’s said on their website:

This Earth Day and beyond, let’s make big stuff happen. Let’s plant 7.8 billion trees for the Earth. Let’s divest from fossil fuels and make cities 100% renewable. Let’s take the momentum from the Paris Climate Summit and build on it.
Let’s start now. And let’s not stop.

Sounds good to me. Us divers can see the change in underwater world better than anyone. How fishing vessels are destroying the reefs and sucking the seas empty, how there’s less and less big fish, how corals are bleaching around the world’s oceans, how there’s more and more garbage everywhere. And many times I feel that no one really cares. Huge oceans are difficult to understand, they are too blue and too deep, like the sky, too wide.

But oceans, like the rainforests, need protection immediately if we want our children to see the unbelievable beauty of underwater world. If the temperature keeps on rising like it has, the corals will die, algae takes over and we are all doomed. Many people don’t even know that corals create most of atmosphere’s oxygen!
Lets save the fish that are still alive and on an edge of extinction. Eat only sustainable fish if you have to eat fish at all. Download an app to help you choose your fish wisely.  If you really care about the oceans: Go vegan.

Lets set fishing limits, create marine parks where mining and fishing are not allowed.

Lets protect all sharks, tunas and whales while there’s still few of them left.

Lets tell everyone how great hobby diving is, divers can really save many remote underwater locations from being destroyed, diving tourism brings so much more money to the communities than fishing.

And of course… Enjoy every bit of it while we still can! ❤

There’s two worlds in this planet, life on earth and life underwater. Spread the word!
